Fashion music and romance have a way of taking us back to particular moments in our lives. Madras shirts take me back to wonderful time spent in SouthernFrance in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Particularly memorable was the Antibes Jazz Festival. Lalo Schifrin, who later found fame writing film scores, was making his debut as THE new young jazz pianist everyone in Europe wanted to hear. All the guys were hanging out in their madras shirts, the colours reflecting summer. Lots of checks, lots of sun and they soon faded and soften to become old and trusted friends. Teamed up with your favourite pair of jeans and a pair of well worn sneakers, they really hit the spot.
